If you have a weakness for coconut (the tropical fruit that adds a lot of flavor to the cream of German chocolate, a coconut cake and coconut Thai curry), then you might ask whether it is good or bad for your health. Coconut nutritional information can be confusing. Often used in high-fat desserts and delicious sauces, coconut dietary may seem a little seasoning. But that does not mean that the coconut is always a negative ingredient in the diet.

The uses

Coconut has been cultivated worldwide for thousands of years. According to Dr. Thomas Ombrello Department of Biology, University of Union County, about 17 billion coconuts are harvested each year worldwide. The coconut oil used in candy and other sweets its oil is used for cooking and baking as well as various non-food, such as paint and soap products; their milk is used for cooking and young coconut water is consumed as a healthy drink because it contains many nutrients.

The fat content

You can not deny that the coconut has a high fat content. The Department of Agriculture indicates that 1 cup of coconut oil contains about 24 grams of saturated fat. According to the USDA, this high-fat, coconut oil pulp is a very high calorie food because it contains 283 calories per cup. Given this information on fat and calories we conclude that coconut oil could lead to weight gain if consumed regularly.

Health consultations

But advertising has classified coconut as a healthy food. Some devotees have chosen the tropical coconut sandwich as a rich source of fat "good" and other nutrients to provide energy, satisfy your appetite, increase metabolism and maintain good health, says Katherine Zeratsky. Although there is no evidence for these claims, the Harvard Medical School points out that tropical oils such as coconuts are harvested very good if eaten in moderation and are healthier than trans fats.

In short: the coconut oil is high in fat and calories, therefore any food rich in calories can lead to weight gain and fat if you are not careful how much is consumed overall and whether physical activity is not done regularly. Although coconut contains some nutrients and small amounts of unsaturated fat, usually it is considered a food that should be enjoyed in moderation, especially if you are trying to lose or maintain weight.
